Detroit's Race Wall
In this 1941 photo supplied by the United States Library of Congress, children are shown standing in front of a half-mile concrete wall in Detroit. The wall was built with a simple aim: separate homes planned for middle-class whites from blacks who had already built small houses or owned land with plans to build in the neighborhood. It couldn't separate people on its own, people and policies would see to that, but it was enough to satisfy the Federal Housing Administration to approve and back loans. Now, it's <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/01/detroit-race-wall-birwood-black-people-art_n_3192373.html" target="_blank">become a canvas for artists</a>, the Associate Press reports.
New Buddies?!
Berkshire Hathaway Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett, second right, and Detroit Lions Defensive Tackle Ndamukong Suh, second left, react as Buffett misses a putt at the Justin Boots booth in Omaha, Neb., Saturday, May 4, 2013. Justin Boots, a Berkshire subsidiary, was promoting it's new line of golf shoes. Tens of thousands attend Berkshire Hathaway shareholder meeting to hear Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger answer questions for more than six hours. No other annual meeting can rival Berkshire's, which is known for its size, the straight talk Buffett and Munger offer and the sales records shareholders set while buying Berkshire products.

Listen To "White Noise"
Stererogum recently gave some love to "White Noise," a video from the Brit-based electronic act Disclosure. The video tells the story of a security guard living in the city of Detroit. We're sure this sexy little beat puts some spring in his step. Lest you think this is just another ruin porn ambience banger, just wait for the Michigan Central Station dance-off. Obstruction of Justice Burned
Tyree Guyton, creator of the Heidelberg Project, finds a burned Michael Jackson poster in the burned remains of the Obstruction of Justice House in Detroit, Friday May 3, 2013. The OJ House, one of the houses that make up the Heidelberg Project outdoor art installation, was <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/03/heidelberg-project-house-_n_3208235.html?ir=Detroit" target="_blank">destroyed by fire early Friday morning</a>.

We showed images of the pools throughout their history at Wayne State, as well as snaps from<a href="www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/03/yamasaki-reflecting-pool-wayne-state-detroit_n_3203303.html" target="_blank"> last week's ceremony</a>.
Josef Coney Island
"Sometimes I feel like the graffiti is watching me." Josef Coney Island calls himself "<a href="http://josefconeyisland.bandcamp.com/" target="_blank">the scumbag hero </a>they pattern your favorite movies after." But there's plenty of narrative truth to be found in "DFW," and at the end of the video, even a little hope. More from Josef Coney Island on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/JosefConeyIsland?fref=ts" target="_blank">Facebook</a>.

Justin Abdelkader Ejected After Massive Hit
Abdelkader's hit <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/05/justin-abdelkader-hit-res_n_3218830.html" target="_blank">already cost the Red Wings</a> in Game 3. He's now been suspended for two additional games by NHL VP (and former Wings star) Brendan Shanahan. Whether or not you think it was a clean hit, we can all agree<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/06/justin-abdelkader-suspended_n_3222374.html?utm_hp_ref=detroit" target="_blank"> this one was a doozy. </a>
Will Obama Consider Reform?
Ismael Duran attends a rally to commemorate the legacy of May Day and support immigration reform in Detroit, Wednesday May 1, 2013. Immigrants and activists called for comprehensive immigration reform _ an issue once again on the front burner politically after being virtually ignored in Obama's first term.

They are protesting recent comments made by Archbishop Allen Vigneron, who said that gay marriage supporters should abstain from taking Communion. (Kate Abbey-Lambertz, The Huffington Post).
Detroit Photos From The Week Of 4/22-4/28
It's time for another round of amazing photographs and videos we stumbled on this week in Detroit. We're finally starting to get a little good weather, so maybe you've been trying to soak up every possible moment of sun and spending less time in front of your screens. If you haven't been spending every second in the TV and computer glow, watching with crossed fingers as the Red Wings managed to make it to the playoffs for a record 22nd-straight season, or shaking your head with confusion as the Detroit bus system lost $7 million of its budget to the suburbs, we completely understand. Luckily, we've compiled some of the most attention-grabbing photos and videos from the week for a "best of" punctuated with frenetic new music videos from local bands and stunning photographs of the city. Check out our top picks you might have missed, like an adorable video of Detroit boxers dancing and a BMX rider doing crazy jumps at a new DIY park. And as always, send us your shots! If you have an image or video you'd like to share for next week's roundup, email it to the HuffPost Detroit editors or send it our way on Twitter to @HuffPostDetroit.
Detroit From On High
The city looks so peaceful from above. Flickr photo <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nasonurb/8672818389/sizes/o/" target="_blank">by brunosan</a>.
'The Robot'
We love this video of Downtown Youth Boxing Gym members in Detroit. As the video description says on Vimeo: <blockquote>Coach Monte does the Robot while boxers Rakeem and Branden provide the beats. Rakeems little brother Monte steals the show at the end!</blockquote>
Traditions Never Die

Cleveland Rapper Takes The Stage
Ohio rapper Machine Gun Kelly took the stage at St. Andrews Hall this week on his birthday. Though his look seems more punk Justin Bieber than rapper, the MC put on a high-energy show with some throwback twists -- see the next slide. Photo by Scott Legato/Getty Images.
Machine Gun Kelly Recreates Eminem's Performance In '8 Mile'
Before Machine Gun Kelly's show, the weather was nice enough to <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/26/machine-gun-kelly-lose-yourself-cover-acoustic-eminem_n_3162610.html" target="_blank">sit outside with fans and recreate a rap song that's nearing classic status</a>. Their sing-along version of Eminem's "Lose Yourself" and his rendition of Eminem's last battle in the movie "8 Mile" are fun, even nostalgic. And a fitting spot: St. Andrews is home to The Shelter, one of the spots that hosted Em back, back in the day.
Talk About Dedication!
And it paid off -- the Red Wings beat the Dallas Stars Saturday to advance to the playoffs. Masonic Mishap
We've seen this photo of the Masonic Temple from Flickr user Matt Callow many times before, but we were reminded of how much we love it when the temple's plight came to light. <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/25/masonic-temple-detroit-foreclosure_n_3154429.html" target="_hplink">Wayne County took control of the historic landmark in Detroit</a> after it went into tax foreclosure with a six-figure unpaid bill. Luckily, the Masonic's owners seem to have <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/25/masonic-temple-detroit-foreclosure_n_3154429.html" target="_hplink">worked out a deal</a> to make their payments -- ones left over from 2010. But with its future uncertain, this gorgeous black and white image reminds us of just how much of a gem the Masonic is. Flickr photo <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/blackcustard/58080065/" target="_hplink">by Matt Callow</a>.
Detroit Symphony Orchestra In Eastern Market And More
We know this is just a commercial, but even 20 seconds of swelling music from the orchestra members, who perform in spots all around Detroit in the vid, gives us a boost. And makes us want to go see a performance!
The Lions Get Their Pick
There were plenty of pictures of Ziggy Ansah at the podium as he <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/25/ezekiel-ansah-lions-nfl-draft-2013-pick_n_3159154.html?utm_hp_ref=ap" target="_blank">became a professional football player with the Detroit Lions</a> this week, just a few years after he was first introduced to the game. But we love this less staged photo as his family captures the moment for themselves. IMAGE DISTRIBUTED FOR NIKE - Ziggy Ansah, defensive end from Brigham Young University, greets his family after being selected as the fifth overall pick by the Detroit Lions after the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Thursday, April 25, 2013, in New York City, New York. Sheefy McFly's New Video Is Definitely NSFW..
..But we love the bright colors, flashing lights and dancing bear in the new video for the Detroit rapper's expletive-laden song "Honey". To be safe, read this foreboding warning from the video's YouTube description: <blockquote>WARNING: A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in videos. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these "photosensitive epileptic seizures" while watching videos. These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects. Immediately stop watching and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms - children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures. </blockquote>
Julia Solis
This week, HuffPost Detroit <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/26/abandoned-theaters-photos-julia-solis-stages-of-decay_n_3159620.html?utm_hp_ref=detroit" target="_blank">caught up with Julia Solis</a>, whose book "Stages of Decay" was released last month. It's full of photographs of theaters that have gone to ruin, which she tracks down all over the country. Pictured here is Hubert Elementary in Detroit. There's no shortage of ruins or photographers of them in the city, but we love Solis' lush, thoughtful, and playful take on the spaces going through a second life.
A Basketball Player's Best Friend
A Swedish Detroit Pistons player went dog scouting in Canada and came back with Hank. That might sound odd, but the golden doodle is a cutie, and certainly a loyal companion to Jonas Jerebko. Jerebko must have picked up some tips from all time spent following coaches' commands -- Beyond being adorable, Hank is very well-trained.
Brush Park Skate Park
Over in Brush Park this month, a crew has started creating a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Brush-Park-BMX/225794817545391?ref=stream&viewer_id=0" target="_blank">DIY BMX playground</a>. This shot of a rider in action comes from Angela McBride and Garret Koehler. Fittingly, Koehler is one of the organizers of Detroit's <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/01/x-games-detroit-espn-bid_n_2977837.html" target="_blank">bid to host the 2013-2015 Summer X Games</a>, ESPN's extreme sports competition.
This Music Video Makes Us Want To Be Kids Again
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. is a local band we love, and one that's steadily catching more and more of the deserved limelight. We can't stop listening to their new EP "Patterns", but we're even more hooked on this version of their single "If You Didn't See Me (Then You Weren't on the Dance Floor". The <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/25/dale-earnhardt-jr-jr-band-video-game-remix_n_3148376.html" target="_blank">remix transforms the original into a midi song in the style of '80s video games</a> -- and the video follows suit with screencaps from dozens of old school games.
The Boxer
Another great video from Studio York, this one features a motivational monologue from a young Detroit boxer: <blockquote>We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous and talented.' Who are you not to be? ... There's nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people around you won't feel insecure. When we let our own light shine we ... give others the permission to do the same.</blockquote> It puts us in the mood to accomplish something grand next week.
The Mind-Altering Tunnel
Every picture we stumble across of the tunnel at the DTW airport is different, and just as weirdly beautiful -- as well as a little trippy. Flickr photo <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulaltobelli/8678242939/" target="_blank">by Paul Altobelli</a>.
Serene City At Night
We'll never get tired of late night shots of downtown buildings. Flickr photo by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/david_shane/8664624528/" target="_blank">david_shane</a>.
High Tensions
After a tense week, the Wings finally made it into the playoffs, making a record 22 seasons straight. Valverde Looks Pleased As Punch
Valverde looks like a weight has lifted off his shoulders. The closer has something to be relieved about -- in a last-minute move, the Tigers <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/24/jose-valverde-detroit-tigers-viral-twitter-contract_n_3148723.html" target="_blank">purchased his one-year minor league contract this week</a> after a disastrous end of the season with the team last year. On Saturday, he <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/27/detroit-tigers-braves-score_n_3171280.html" target="_blank">pitched a perfect 9th inning</a>. The extreme throwdown featured skaters, loud music and a premiere of the full-length X Games Detroit application video. A preview of the new bid vid was aired first at HuffPost Detroit.

The Long Ride
Detroit police are scooping up homeless people downtown and dumping them in remote locations, the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan said in a <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/18/detroit-homeless-police-aclu_n_3111725.html" target="_blank">complaint filed Thursday with the U.S. Department of Justice.</a> The ACLU said police are forcing individuals who appear homeless into police vehicles, transporting them out of town and dropping them off miles away, sometimes outside city limits.
