We wanted to learn more about the British travel insurance company Flexicover, and thought an interview might be the best way to learn more on how their insurance plans work and why you should choose Flexicover as the company insuring your next trip. Sheena who works at the company took the time to answer our questions, and the result is this interview with some in-depth info on Flexicover and great tips for safe traveling.
Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and what you do at Flexicover Travel Insurance?
I am Sheena, Digital Marketing Manager at Flexicover. I have been with the company for just over 2 years. I love my role, it?s varied and dynamic ? no two days are the same. I work with some great people both internally and also externally. After my graduation (Marketing ? Brunel Uni), I worked in Dubai for a Branding company, loved the life but came back home lest I stayed for good as a colonial! My favorite hobby is travelling ? I must have visited over 20 countries but still have another 120 to go! Will I ever do it? ?
How do you determine the price for an insurance policy for someone with a pre-existing medical condition?
The assessment of medical conditions varies from one insurer to another and is subject to a number of factors, including condition, destination, duration and dates of booking/departure. Each insurer then assesses the costs based on previous experience.
When should people opt for an annual multi-trip insurance?
If you travel more than once a year, you are more likely to save money by purchasing an Annual multi trip policy. Also with some insurance providers, including Flexicover if you buy a couple or family policy, each person named on the policy can travel independently.
Why should young people get a holiday insurance as well?
An afternoon in the hospital with a broken finger or a few days stay for an emergency appendectomy can not only be really expensive but also a harsh experience in a government hospital of a non-English-speaking nation. The last thing they should do is neglect getting the medical attention and other protections because of a relatively small cost.
What makes your trip insurance suited for business travelers as well?
All our policies include and automatic ?business cover extension? as often there is only a small dividing line between business and leisure. Flexicover?s Gold policy covers up to ?400 for business goods and equipment.
Do you also serve customers that aren?t based in the UK?
Flexicover Direct policies are only available to UK residents. However, our sister company Citybond Suretravel can cover EU residents.
Why should travellers buy insurance with Flexicover Direct, and not with one of your competitors?
We have over 30 years? experience in selling travel insurance, so have a proven track record as one of the UK?s leading direct sell travel insurance providers, insuring over 1.2 million passengers a year. We have some great unique selling points (see below)?

Can you give an example of a recent, remarkable claim story you received?
We engage claims experts separately, so don?t generally get to hear about individual claims stories. So here?s one you may like:
Whilst walking along the street in Greece, a man walked straight into a glass-paneled bus shelter and broke his nose. Rather than see an optician, he was honest enough to admit that the accident happened because he?d been distracted by a group of girls in bikinis!
We advise you to subscribe to the Flexicover newsletter for more remarkable claim stories.
How is working at Flexicover like?
Fantastic, especially when you have a team as great as I am a part of ? we work hard and play hard ? ice cream is being dished out as we speak, to celebrate Team GB winning yet another Gold Medal in the Olympics ? we share all data so can see the team results daily!
What are the top 3 tips you can give for safer traveling?
- Scan all travel documents including your passport and email them to yourself and your family ? that way your documents won?t go missing even if your bags do ? don?t forget to retain the Emergency Telephone numbers (Flexicover will text these to you free on your mobile with every policy purchase).
- Check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advice for you destination before you travel ? travelling to a country or area against the advice of the FCO can mean your travel insurance will not cover your trip.
- Get travel insurance ? Having the right type of travel insurance cover is absolutely essential for a safe trip. It?s also advisable to have a valid EHIC (European Health Insurance Card). An EHIC is available free of charge and will last for 5 years but it is not a substitute for travel insurance. As we say at Flexicover: Don?t leave home without us!
Our thanks go to Sheena and the rest of the Flexicover team for letting us do this interview with them. We have some great new insights in how this company?s travel insurance works and why we should rely on them for our UK travel insurances. If you?ve already been traveling with an insurance from Flexicover, be sure to submit a review for their services on our site.
